Spring Vignette
Spring has finally arrived, and with it abundant opportunity for creative plays on bright colors and textures. Our Spring window at Lunaria again juxtaposes the classic antiques (the pair of antique country kitchen chairs and the antique pewter campaign bed) with the more contemporary orange patchwork area rug, colorful fur and print pillows—and textural white items to add layers in the most discrete way possible (the long haired goat ottoman, a steal at only $1500, and the mattress cover made of vinyl white ostrich fabric).

Light naturally plays a role—we are a lighting store after all—so on display are both Italamp’s Et Voilà floor lamp (on the table, where I think it makes an even more dramatic impression) and Melograno Blu’s trio of large clear pendants (info below). Both lines play with scale using classically crafted glass, and both succeed with out question in making a statement. The 42” tall Et Voilà is such a wonderful fixture; since its arrival at the store several customers just couldn’t live without it’s huge presence. It’s truly a showstopper! While we show it in Clear Glass, the Et Voilà comes in a color for everyone, from bright, fun colors like Pink and Green to a more sophisticated Cobalt Blue and—new just this year—a Smoked Glass with an iron gray shade. No house should be without this one.

To finish off the vignette, we have one of the white lacquer side tables from the award winning Reeves Design collection, and several black and white abstract charcoal originals showing the human form. All items are for sale off the floor—why wouldn’t you want to take it all home? Come and visit Lunaria today!

A Shout Out to Angeleno Magazine

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Big thanks to Angeleno magazine for not only including us in their March feature on spectacular ceilings, but also using our image for call-out on the table of contents page!

They chose a dynamic project that Nicolas and I have been working on over the last year or so: the Pamplin residence in Greenbrae.

Here’s a scan of the pages, and a larger version of just the photo. If you click on the image of the article, you’ll get a readable version of it:

Innovation from LBL

Friday, April 4th, 2008

People often find themselves stuck by existing conditions and give up on the possibility of a “Quick Fix Lighting Makeover”.

Well LBL lighting has offered up its solutions to a few common problems, like those ugly 6.5″ recessed lights that date back to the 80’s when recessed lights were The New Greatest Thing; or rooms with hipped ceilings going in every direction. This year’s new collection offers a retrofit canopy to work in those “old-school” recessed light openings. Presto change-o: now a sleek pendant or track head can hang in its place.

Also launched this year is a swag hook, used to change a mini pendant’s point of suspension to any point on the ceiling, thereby opening up the options to fixtures that use electrical wire.

Suffice it to say lighting manufacturers are making it harder and harder for us not to take a look at the way we light our lives and make it better.
