Trendsetters

We received an advance copy of the June issue of the US edition of Trends magazine on Thursday, and on pages 64 & 65 is an article called “Fantasy land” with the “tub room” Nicolas and I designed. As fate would have it, in walked our client, not knowing we had just received the issue. I had it displayed on the counter in front of my desk, and casually asked her to look down. With a quizzical expression, she did—and her scream of joy shook the store walls.

How wonderful and gratifying it is to validate the time, energy and expense of a design project with an article about it in an international magazine! For those of you that don’t know, this is no easy feat; regardless of the projects merit, it might not make it to the publishing stage, so when we discussed publication with the client we thought we had a good chance but understanding how long it would take was like teaching someone a new language. There was some doubt, but thanks to the efforts of our great publicity team at K2 and the foresight of Trends’ John Williams, we can now present the project to the public in all its glory. Hooray!

LED Light, Green Light

Friday, June 6th, 2008

It’s hard to believe, but many lighting manufacturers are already combining beauty with increased function. I realized today that two of the fixtures in our store—the Anastasia and the Liin—both work with fluorescent light.

OK, now don’t worry; the compact fluorescent bulb has come a long way. Available in many shades and temperatures, others need never know you’re making that ultimate sacrifice.

But it even gets better: LED technology has adaptable lamps that use even less electricity and better yet can be dimmed (with a step dimmer). So yes, everyone, you can now have your cake and eat it too. LED lamps use just a small fraction of what a normal lamp uses, and as an added bonus they last practically forever (something like 50,000 hours!!). Now that is something to think about.
